Youth No More: Maximizing Your Health in your 30's

So, you've hit your 30's and suddenly you're feeling a bit more like an adult. This past month it hit me like a ton of bricks- youth is not fighting back like it normally would. From someone who used to sleep with Hawaiian rolls in the bed with them for a midnight snack and wake up feeling fine, it was puzzling when I started experiencing migraines, grogginess, and just feeling Old AF. I decided then to challenge myself to eat health(ier) for 30 days to see if  1. I could do it and 2. I notice any changes.

In the infamous voice of TikTok meme "Surprise, Surprise..." I noticed a difference by day 5 of my journey which led me to write this month's blog.  Fear not, just because you're no longer a spring chicken doesn't mean you can't still live your best life. In fact, your 30's can be a prime time to focus on your health and well-being. Here are some tips to help you maximize your health in this new decade of life.

1. Get Moving, Baby!

It's time to dust off those running shoes and get your body moving. Whether it's hitting the gym, going for a jog, or busting a move in a dance class, staying active is key to staying healthy in your 30's. Plus, exercise releases those feel-good endorphins that will keep you smiling all day long.

2. Don't Skip the Zzz's

Sure, you may have pulled all-nighters in your 20's like a champ, but now is the time to prioritize your sleep. Getting a solid 7-8 hours of shut-eye each night can do wonders for your overall health and well-being. So, tuck yourself in, put on some soundscapes, and catch those Zzz's like a pro.

3. Eat Your Greens (and Reds, and Yellows!)

When it comes to your diet, it's all about balance. I'm not going to lie this was the hard part for me. However, feeling better in a short period of switching things up made me want to stick to the plan. Make sure to incorporate plenty of fruits and veggies into your meals to ensure you're getting all the vitamins and nutrients your body needs. Try to follow a  schedule of Breakfast, Snack Lunch, Dinner. Eating multiple meals a day helps our body not go into fat storing mode, and overall keeps us sustained throughout the day. Meal planning does not have to be boring. Get creative in the kitchen and whip up some delicious and nutritious meals that will have your taste buds doing the chickenhead circa 07'.

4. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

Staying hydrated is crucial for maintaining your health, especially as you get older. So, grab that water bottle and keep it by your side all day long. Your body will thank you for it. For some razzle dazzle, get one of those water bottles from five below with different markers that ultimately say "B ***h, you're doing a good job!"  to hit your goal.

5. Stress Less, Laugh More

Life can be stressful, but that doesn't mean you have to let it get the best of you. Find ways to de-stress and unwind, whether it's through meditation, shopping, or simply taking a few moments to laugh with friends. Laughter truly is the best medicine, so don't be afraid to let loose and have a good chuckle.

So, there you have it, some tips to help you thrive in your 30's and beyond. Remember, age is just a number or whatever Aaliyah said.  With a little bit of effort and a whole lot of laughter, you can live your best, healthiest life yet. I challenge you to give it a shot!
